Or, a lot of stuff to read while the internet is slow this holiday weekend
Hope everyone is having a great weekend and if you’re American that you’re having a wonderful fourth of July weekend. I started a new writing gig with the terrific personal finance blog Money Ning last week. My first post was How to Recover Financially from a Life Upheaval where I talk about some of the lessons I learned from having to deal with the financial side of going through a tragic loss.
I’m very excited to be given this new opportunity and am looking forward to sharing all my posts with you. The site has several very talented writers and I’m honored to be included in such good company.
Last week on Health Compare Guide, I posted 3 articles:
How to Calculate the Value of Your Time
You’ve probably heard people say they won’t do X or Y because the value of their time is worth more than whatever benefit X or Y has to offer. It seems simple enough to just plug in whatever the hourly rate your employer pays you and have that be the value of your time but that method doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.
15 Ways to Raise Confident Happy Children
You don’t have to be a perfect parent to raise happy, self confident kids; your love and respect is the number one thing your children need. With that as your foundation, you can add these tips to your parenting toolbox to give your kids an edge when it comes to feeling great about themselves and the world around them.
Is Your Attitude Towards Money Keeping You Poor?
It’s easy to see why it’s difficult to form positive attitudes about money in our culture. We are bombarded by mixed messages that it’s not good to care about money, that we shouldn’t place too much importance on it while at the same time using financial status as a way of keeping score and shaming those who are not financially stable.
Do you have any of these self-defeating attitudes towards money?
Useful Posts
I didn’t get a lot of reading for pleasure done this week but I did run across several posts that gave solid advice on work and personal development.
The Key to Creating Remarkable Things by Mark MacGuiness at The 99 Percent
The trouble with this approach is that you end up spending the best part of the day on other people’s priorities, running their errands, and giving them what they need. By the time you finally settle down to your own work, it could be mid-afternoon, when your energy has dipped and it’s hard to focus on anything properly. “Oh well, maybe tomorrow will be better,” you tell yourself.
This post really spoke to me because it’s something I’ve been struggling with a lot lately. I get so bogged down in little tasks and busywork during the day and find that by the time I can sit down and do my creative work, my brain is completely zapped. This week I am going to buckle down and do my writing first then answer emails and do the jobs that don’t require a lot of creative thinking.
How to Massively Spread Your Online Influence – The Superfast Way by Mars Dorian
Do you know why some blogs grow like crazy with half the work ? Do you know why the big players get more and more successful ? Do they summon powerful magic to get these kick-ass results ?
You’ll have to read the post to get the full answer but in a nutshell the secret to success is having an alliance. It’s true 3 or 4 people working together to build each other up is far more powerful than 3 or 4 individuals trying to claw their way to the top on their own. Just be careful who you ally with! For example, I wouldn’t choose me unless you were looking for a major in with people who like to look at stuff and say ewwww.

A little Contest!
My life coach Tim Brownson is holding a little contest on his blog asking What’s Your Best Piece of Advice? While it’s doubtful that you can top my contribution if you do, you’ll win a $25 Amazon gift certificate and a signed copy of How to be Rich and Happy.
And what was my advice? Well duh.
