500,000

by Tracy

Sometime tomorrow, this blog will have received its 500,000th page view.  Some might think it a silly milestone to acknowledge, but I’m extremely proud that I’ve taken things this far. I’m not terribly good at math, but it seems at the rate I’m going, the millionth page view will be in just one more year.

I guess I should make some sort of stirring speech, because if you can’t be poncy when celebrating your 500,000th page view, when can you? However, tonight I’m pretty worn out and have a big day tomorrow.

For all those new bloggers out there, I want to tell you that it is worth it to stick with it. It seems like it took me forever to break into 3 digit average daily views. Don’t ever feel like you have to be sheepish about admitting that you do want to be read.  Feel free to ignore people who don’t get why you’d want to do this and insist that nobody would want to read what they had for breakfast. Tell them that they’re right, nobody does care what they had for breakfast and then go on to write the best damn post about bacon and eggs that was ever written.

I’ve got to head to bed now, but thank you all for reading and being a part of this huge milestone.

That's great! And your advice to other bloggers is great. And I'll read your posts when they are about bacon and eggs, or anything else you might have eaten for breakfast, because you use words like 'poncy' and because you are f'ing hilarious, even if you are really tired.

You'll get there. After awhile it snowballs, it just takes time to get it to that point.

Hey! You forgot the pork brains!
But seriously, I think it is about 20% of total page views are just that one post and who knows how many are from folks that came in on that page and clicked a few of the links.
If you look at my “Greatest Hits” the top 5 posts are all food related. I guess people like food, grody or not!

    Woo-hoo! Congratulations!

Yes, I kind of regret reading (and then recommending in my first-ever blog post) the book “No One Cares What You Had for Lunch.” If you're a good writer, you can write about anything. And you fall into that category.

Thanks, JD! I think you are, too.
I guess I don't get the hostility some people have towards what other people choose to blog/tweet/facebook. Being bored by your friends and loved ones is a part of life and the great thing about them doing it digitally is you can totally pick your underear out of your butt and clip your nails while they are doing so.

And you know what? From my experiences being a person who eats lunch, people really do enjoy talking about who had what for lunch, much more so than really big! and important! and worthy! things. Which are important, too, but yeah, talking about lunch is cool, too.

Now that is a HUGE deal! Congrats to you and your blog! How awesome!!!!

And I agree with you – its never the story you tell. Its HOW you tell the story!

It is! There are people who could make sparkly unicorns standing on the corner pooping out hundred dollar bills while a parade of drag queens walked by sound dull.
