Or, you knew I wouldn’t be able to resist embedding this song several times this year
I was super excited when I realized that this year would be the year of the tiger because I just happened to be born in the year of the tiger nearly 36 years ago today (email me for the exact date and wish list information) and I was sure this meant that I would have extraordinary good fortune this year.
Except that it would seem that in order to have the opportunity and fortune I would have to face calamitous times first.
Calamitous!
And so I did. And now whaddaya know, all these opportunities are coming out of the woodwork. It’s a little eerie really. I’ll be talking a lot about these projects in the coming weeks.
In any case, it would seem that my next step would be to continue with the abundant self discipline and remember not to lose my head. So, that’s what I’ll do.
And although I dislike watching boxing very much, it seems to be the inspiration for lots of great and inspirational music, so we’ll end like this.
I really like this version because it includes this verse that wasn’t on the version I learned growing up:
Now the years are rolling by me
They are rockin’ easily
I am older than I once was
And younger than I’ll be and that’s not unusual.
No it isn’t strange
After changes upon changes
We are more or less the same
After changes we are more or less the same
It’s great when you’re happy when you realize that no matter what happens you’ll always be yourself.

I was born in the year of the Monkey. Pah. Want to be a Tiger (**folds arms and sulks**)
My husband and I are both tigers. When I was pregnant with #3, who is a monkey, we’d got to eat at this Chinese restaurant after my appointments and they had these paper zodiac placemats that always warned us “Beware of the Monkey!”

Great post Tracy. I loved the video of the kids singing Eye of the Tiger. I also really like the Boxer. I used to listen to a Simon and Garfunkel album of my mother’s over and over when I was in 6th grade. That song reminds me of those times.
I’m glad you’re luck is turning around. We’re the same age. I’ve had a bit of a rough year too, but things are definitely starting to turn around.

My parents used to listen to Simon and Garfunkel, too. My dad had a huge songbook of theirs and I would try to play the songs on the piano and sing along, even though I’m just not that coordinated. It’s an either/or situation with me I’m afraid.
I’m so glad things are turning around for you, too!

Yay for opportunities!
I’m really glad things are looking up for you.
P.S. I love the PS 22 chorus! That music teacher rocks. (He’s also very good-looking. But don’t tell my husband I said that.)

Thanks Nancy! He is pretty cute, isn’t he? I bet all the moms are constantly bringing him cookies and banana bread.
So when you’re making the big bucks, can I be your secretary?
I always forget what Chinese Zodiac year I was born in, although I’m almost certain it wasn’t the goat (darn it all to hell!) It’s probably the year of the snake and I’m repressing it because I don’t like snakes.

Oh that would be awesome Margaret, let’s hope I make the big bucks, soon! I was so excited about how much I was making, which um, most people would laugh at as it was, then I remembered taxes and stuff, so I guess I was premature in ordering that “RchBch” vanity plate.
I think if I were born in the year of the dung beetle or something I’d scoff at Chinese astrology. But dude, Tiger? Only thing better would be Dragon.
I’m also inordinately proud of being a Gemini. That was a major accomplishment on my part to be born in May.

I really needed a good Eye of the Tiger. I should listen to that every morning, just to get my lame ass out of bed. It’s so energizing! I love that one kid with the solo. What a voice.
Have to say, when I saw the title of this post, I thought you were supporting Tiger Woods.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking all year that it’s supposed to be the year of the Tiger not the year of yammering on about the sex life of Tiger Woods, who wasn’t even born in the year of the Tiger.
Oh, my gosh.
I remember listening to that Simon & Garfunkel album over and over as a kid. “The Boxer,” “Ceceila,” “El Condor PASA,” or whatever. And so on. And that last verse sounds sort of familiar, tho I’m sure it’s not the version I grew up with.
ANYway, Happy Eye of the Year of the Tiger to you! I predict great things for you.

We had it on 8 track because we were super groovy back then!
Okay…maybe it’s just me (because I’m not a parent), but when a group of kids sings a popular song, it kinda ruins it for me.
Hi Friar! You know, I hate those Kids Bop albums but I guess I am a mom because I think that group of kids is just adorable.
Don’t worry though, I don’t think kids singing is adorable enough to let mine do it in the middle of restaurants unless it looks like the other customers are inclined to give them a tip.
Those kids are a delight to watch. What a great job that young man has done to inspire them. Thanks for posting and giving me a smile to start the day!
