Very well written. You were sensitive and used some program lingo. Didn’t blame and put a perspective on your commentary that allowed for no blame but rather empathy for the addicts plight. ” He said to me that there were only two people who could help a drug addict and neither of them were me. One was his dealer and the other was Narcotics Anonymous and they would both always be there and it was solely up to the addict which one he saw. Wise words.”

Very wise words indeed and very true. I hope to continue to stay clean myself and choose this me (clean) rather than the demon I become when using. 13 years and counting of daily repreives. Thanks for the article.

Addiction is a horrible thing to deal with and it rips people apart. It has been a long and Hard road with someone I know and I wonder if it will ever end.

Thank you. Drug addiction is an awful thing. It is doubly hard here in the US because of the expense of treatment, which Sheff also covers in his book. Thank God that burden wasn’t a part of our experience.

I've never had a book review bring me to tears until now. Lesley, thank you for sharing Christophe's story and how loving an addict has impacted your life.
