Baconnaise – A Review and a Contest!

by Tracy on February 5, 2009

Or, finally you can get the best parts of a BLT in spreadable form without having to eat any pesky fiber parts

Baconnaise

Baconnaise

Note: Our contest is over, but the folks at BaconSalt are running a promotion to get free Baconnaise for a year.

I was alerted to Baconnaise by a thread on the IHMMB forums and knew right then and there that I had to have some. It’s a bacon flavored spread made by the same guys that brought us Bacon Salt. Right now, it has a limited distribution in brick and mortar stores, but Amazon has a 3 pack for just under $14 and I have Prime 2 day shipping, so it was all systems go for an impulse bacon flavored spread buy!

I knew the jars would be here on Wednesday and my plan was to go to the grocery on Wednesday morning for buns, lettuce and tomatoes. Alas, one of my children had an ominous tummy ache that made traveling outside the house inadvisable so I asked my husband to pick up the buns from Circle K on the way home from work and I would just serve them topped with caramelized onions. Yum.

Only he forgot the buns and I had a super crazy day and forgot that I totally suck at making my own burger patties. They start off the right size but shrink down into puny, sad little pucks of beef. They are still tasty and juicy but leave a lot of empty bun space. And I was frazzled so everything was a mess and I dropped half of the oven baked fries on the floor.

My ugly but tasty baconnaise burgers

But you know what? The baconnaise made it all worth it. It was smoky! It was rich! It was bacon-y! It was as if somebody scraped off my favorite parts of the BLT and whirred it in a blender and put it in a jar. My only complaint was that it was just a bit on the salty side, but that is easily remedied by using it sparingly. It’s not salty inedible, more like dang, should I be eating something so deliciously salty?

It was good dipped in the oven fries, although they were kind of cold by the time I got to them.  Not the baconnaise’s fault. It’s a bit rich and strongly bacony for me to use as a straight dip, I’d probably cut it with something else

This morning we had a cheeseburger left over and I thought you know what? I haven’t had a fried egg topped burger in forever! So I loaded up a Wonderbread bun (all they had at the gas station) with the baconnaise, the cheeseburger, the leftover onions and a once over easy egg.

And you know what? It was delicious in a wow, I probably shouldn’t have had donuts this morning if I was going to eat this, too sort of way.

BTW, I had to take it outside to photograph because everywhere I stood my own shadow was on the burger! I really need to learn food photography!

I made Baconnaise California Rolls! They Were Yum.

Ooooh… did a roast chicken tonight and I made some garlicky dijon mayo to dip it in… it’d have been even better with Baconnaise rather than mayo….

I would replace the mayo in spinach artichoke dip with Baconnaise. Maybe a little more than the recipe required! Just imagine… Baked spinach artichoke dip with Baconnaise spread on bread, crackers, dipped by chips, on a sandwich, baked on fish, chicken, the list just goes on and on! Now I’m hungry.

OMG – Deviled Eggs would be incredible with Baconnaise.

Would using it in Ham Salad be overkill??

I think it would make an amazing potato salad or even pasta salad! I also would make chicken salad sandwiches with it. Mix it with a little vinegar and I’m thinking delicious salad dressing too!

I am in heaven with seeing this product. We love bacon in this house and I would use this on grilled hamburgers, sandwiches, deviled eggs, tuna salad, chicken salad, you name it will be spread to the fullest. Thank-you.

Just to replace the bacon on BLT’s, which we eat weekly at my house, would be wonderful. Also put it in deviled eggs, salad dressing, BBQ sauce, anywhere bacon would be appropriate.

What a great idea this is.

Oh wow, Baconaise! I have been waiting for this product to make an appearance at my local supermarket. Thinking that it will be the perfect sandwich condiment in lieu of mayo or miracle whip.

Also, am planning to try it in my curried egg salad or on my burgers.

Yum, BACON!

I would love to dip it fries like you did, or potato wedges! Also, a BLT sandwich would be so much better with this, twice the bacon :D Thank you so much for offering this giveaway! eyeslikesugar [at] gmail [dot] com

Since I’m all about hot sandwiches, how about on a grilled turkey panini? Or use it to make the tuna for a tuna melt… or oven in a toasted grilled cheese, served up with some roasted pepper tomato soup. I’m hungry now!

This would go great in my fiances potato salad. Purely baconnaise would be too much, I’d have to incorporate it with the mayo we already use, but it would add some great flavour; like a baked potato! :) eyeslikesugar [at] gmail [dot] com

Honestly, I’d probably put it on everything but my first thing would be to use it on a BLT. You can’t go wrong with bacon AND baconnaise.

So, here I am, dreaming of Baconnaise again, and I realized that I have an awesome stuffed jalapeno recipe that calls for some mayo and cheese mixed together to make the stuffing. How incredible would it be to use Baconnaise instead? And maybe even wrap it in Bacon like the Pioneer Woman’s Bacon wrapped jalapenos? Man – I bet it would be superb.

Reply

HeatherB February 11, 2009 at 2:11 pm

So, thinking of Pioneer Woman, I went over to her site again and was reading her sushi instructions, when I came upon the part about spicy mayo for some of the rolls. Now, how awesome would it be to use baconaise to make up sushi? I think it would be most awesome.

This would be handy to keep a jar of at work, so then when the office orders out for sub sandwiches, I could have the best, bacon sandwich. :9 I need one for at home and work… yum! Thank you so much for offering this giveaway! eyeslikesugar [at] gmail [dot] com
