A happy memory of my childhood, given that I'm English and now living in Scotland! At one point, there was a furore over here because some school or another had apparently decided to curb the potential for crudeness by renaming it "spotted Richard" on the menu. Thankfully our national eccentricity prevailed, and it's still got its old name. A dick (in this sense, anyway!) is a roll-shaped boiled or steamed traditional sponge pudding, by the way.
