Kinder Joy – Mit Überraschung!

Kinder Joy

Kinder Joy

You might have heard of Kinder Eggs, the popular German hollow chocolate egg with a prize inside. The thing is, air conditioning is rare in Germany and with Global Warming hollow chocolate eggs don’t tend to do so well, becoming mishappen and not very Gemütlichkeit-making. And thus was born the Kinder Joy mit Überraschung (surprise).

When you open the Kinder Joy you find a chocolate dessert on one side and a spoon for eating it on the other.

It probably wouldn’t suit chocolate snobs but I think it is delicious. Creamy milk chocolate and milk cream and two crunchy wafery balls with more chocolate inside.

But what is on the other side, under the spoon?

Why it’s a little toy for you to put together!

I’m kind of partial to the little hippo figurines they sometimes have, but this flying thingamabob with the velcro pad for to stick on unsuspecting victim’s clothing promises hours of fun. Oh those wacky Germans!

I have a deep love for Kinder Eggs. I still get them in my Easter basket every year and I have a nice collection of the random little toys.

Überraschung is a much better word than surprise. Someone better throw me an Überraschung party next year.

Those look way better than Cracker Jacks.

Cute!

Years ago dh once bought an entire “tray” of Kinder eggs (ie the way they display them in the shops) because they contained Ötzi figures. Or maybe the box did, I don’t remember. I just remember reaping the rewards.
