My Memphis: A Photo Essay

Bust of Elvis

Instead of writing a post, I’m going to be really lazy and show a couple of pictures of what I see when I go “Walking in Memphis”. I don’t care for it when people sing that to me when they find out I am from Memphis, even though it’s super original and creative.

I am afraid these pictures aren’t very good. One day I will learn how to get rid of glare! Even if it means gaining a lot of weight so I can block out the sun with my own body.

This is Murray’s. They sell clothes with convenient charge accounts. Strangely enough, I have never seen any pimps going into this store.

I can’t believe nobody has stolen the mannequins!

The pictures probably would have been better had I not tried my best to not be caught taken pictures. I just didn’t want to have to explain to Murray that I was using his store as an object of fun. Let’s hope they don’t do vanity Googles!

Next door to Murray’s is Jerry’s.

This handless mannequin woman just makes me sad. Wasn’t there some book where a handless statue of the Virgin Mary was an omen of doom (A Prayer for Owen Meaney?)

And the Memphis Music Shrine at the Center For Southern Folklore

Complete with revolving Isaac Hayes!

I hope you have enjoyed this short tour of part of three blocks of the city I call home. Whoever is come to my city, I kiss you! <–Ha, I am old.
