New Improved Pickle Pops
On left, original, on right, new and improved

Bob’s Pickle Pops came through with the new, improved pickle pops they offered me in my last blog entry.
Hello blogger, thanks for taking the time to comment on the pickle pops. We have a secret to admit to you. Because you took the time to write this up you are the first to know about our Xantan Gum/ Guar Gum stabilized version where by all the issues you mentioned are solved. The flavor, texture, and icyness are consistent throughout and no longer seperate. The ice is no longer frozen like an ice cube and is so easy to eat. They will be available this summer once we sell of the inventory of the current versions. We would be happy to send you a few to try out if your interested.

It came packaged in the old “pickle sickle” packaging, but as you can see, the new improved version has flecks of pickle suspended in the liquid. I like it, it makes for a homier, more rustic, you might even say slow-food style pickle pop. I don’t know if they are planning to keep it that way for the commercial version but I think they should.

In a side by side test, my five year declared the new improved Pickle Pop to be the winner, although he didn’t hesitate to ask to finish off the original version, too. I found the texture of the improved version to be have a much better mouth feel, although it still tasted like pickle juice. That could be a plus or it could be a minus. One thing I liked is how as it thawed it broke into little shards of frozen pickle juice, much like a pickle granita. Very cool and refreshing – I’m thinking that this summer, I shall make Pickle Pop Granita, serve it in tiny bowls and pretend I got the idea from that Spanish guy what makes the foams and airs and whatnot. Fancy, no?

Bob’s Pickle Pops are worth a shot – I do think the new improved version is better, but if you’re feeding them to kids, the older version that you can buy now is fine, too. I really appreciate them sending me a sample to try, it seems like this is a company that cares about their customers, even if they are a bunch of pickle juice sucking freaks. Erm, wink.

Hello Tracy, i am glad you liked them and thank you for the comment about the flecks of pickle skin grinded up. We are moving forward with that addition as well. Keep in touch and we look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Diva’s going El Bulli!

I had a balsamic strawberry champagne cocktail last night and it was revolting. But a balsamic strawberry pickle pop could have merit. Appeal to a different demographic? If you freeze dried the strawberries then they wouldn’t freeze rock solid so you’d have lovely little chewy nuggets of strawberry floating around in your vinegary goodness.

I don’t know about strawberries, I really think crushed starlight mint dust would be gorgeous on a pickle granita.

The flecks of Pickle Skin count as fiber, in my book anyway, so I therefore declare the new and improved Pickle Pops a Health Food ! Eat up kids !
and, umm, Diva…”Mouth Feel” ? I think this food taster stuff has gone to your head just a tad bit. Hopefully, not to your hips as well. At least these are a pretty low cal item.
